We know that moving can be a stressful process, so we’ve prepared the checklist below to help you ensure that your transition is as smooth as possible. Follow these steps for an easier transition:
Start Packing Early
For many people, moving is a hectic experience because they do not begin packing early enough, and they end up staying up late several nights in a row right before the move scrambling to securely pack all their belongings. You can minimize stress by starting the packing process early. Begin in a room that you use less often, such as your guestroom or office. Make sure you have masking tape and markers on hand to clearly label which room each box is destined for in your new apartment home. Start the process about three weeks before you are due to move, and when the day arrives you will find that you have most of your belongings already packed. Whether you have hired movers or rented a truck to do it yourself, this will expedite the process.
Trim Down Your Possessions
Moving to a new apartment provides you the perfect opportunity to get rid of items that you no longer need. Fewer possessions equals fewer boxes to move, and thus less time and energy spent. It will also streamline your unpacking process when you arrive at your new apartment. If you wish, you can hold a traditional yard sale, but many people today find that the easiest way to sell their belongings is online through a marketplace such as Craigslist. You can also donate your unwanted items to a charity organization such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army if you would like a write-off on next year’s taxes. Consider simply getting rid of your old furniture and buying all-new items to match the luxury features in your new luxury apartment. Also, keep in mind that all of our units are equipped with a washer and dryer, so if you own these appliances you won’t need to bring them with you.
Notify Banks and Utilities
Before you move in to your new apartment, you will need to activate the utilities in your unit, and deactivate them at your current residence. The utility companies should allow you to specify an end date for service at your old address and a start date for service at your new address. Also, make sure you contact your cable company and your high-speed Internet service provider so that you can get your TV and computer hooked up right away. If you wait until the last minute, you may have to wait several days until after your move in to have these secondary services activated.
