Although the theater had once fallen into disrepair, it was saved from demolition and revived in the 1980s. Since 1986, it has been operated by Landmark Theaters. The theater’s original auditorium was converted into a single large movie theater and two additional screens were added on the building’s second floor, which also hosts a bar. Over the years, a number of trendy art galleries, restaurants, bars, and vintage clothing shops have filled in the area around the Mayan Theatre, creating a unique movie going experience and nightlife scene in the heart of the Mile High City.
Pepsi Center
Denver’s Pepsi Center is a five-level arena that serves as the home of the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Mammoth, and the Colorado Avalanche. Each year, the Pepsi Center hosts more than 200 sporting events, family shows, concerts, and other special events in its 675,000 square-foot building. The Pepsi Center’s Grand Atrium is also home to a famous 2,000-pound sculpture featuring basketball and hockey players frozen in mid-action. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts
The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is a nonprofit theater organization dedicated to highlighting classic theater while also featuring new and exciting masterpieces. The roots of The Denver Center for the Performing Arts go back to 1950, in a partnership formed by Helen G. Bonfils and Donald R. Seawell. Today, this renowned theater organization not only puts on local and touring productions, but provides various levels of theater education for children and adults as well. During the 2014 season, The Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ calendar includes productions of Evita, black odyssey, Hamlet, and Mamma Mia!.
